Setcrete® 2K Pro serves up perfect subfloor finish for kitchen/dining extension

Setcrete 2K Pro floor levelling compound has served up the perfect subfloor surface for the installation of J2 Flooring LVT planks in a residential extension project in Eccleshall, Staffordshire.

The home’s previous kitchen and dining room had been knocked through and an extension added to create a modern, open plan kitchen/dining area with patio doors opening onto the rear garden of the property. The two, adjacent subfloors were not at precisely the same level, so required levelling up to create a smooth, uniform subfloor base that would optimise the appearance of the installed floorcovering.

The builder, undertaking the work, also recommended that Setcrete Rapid Set DPM (damp proof membrane) was applied to the entire 65 m² floor area to safeguard against potential subfloor moisture rising to the surface, where it could then attack water-based adhesive used to adhere LVT planks to the subfloor.

Setcrete Rapid Set DPM is a two-part, solvent-free epoxy resin that is applied as a single coat and cures to a glossy black finish in around three hours.

Before installing the DPM, the builder applied a layer of Setcrete 2K Pro floor levelling compound over the whole floor area, having first primed the subfloors with Setcrete Acrylic Primer. This effectively levelled up the old and new floor areas and made sure the subfloor was completely smooth and even, thereby avoiding the liquid DPM from pooling in depressions in the subfloor or risking it being too thinly applied over high spots.

Setcrete 2K Pro is a two-component ‘bag and bottle’ moisture-tolerant levelling compound that can be applied between 3mm and 30mm thick, with a walk on hard time of 90 minutes, and is ready to receive a floor covering after four hours.

After the DPM had been applied and had fully cured, a further coat of Setcrete Acrylic Primer was then applied before a final layer of Setcrete 2K Pro floor levelling compound to create a super smooth base onto which J2 Flooring bevelled-edge ‘Carpenters Oak’ LVT planks could be installed, resulting in a high-quality, contemporary finish.
