Tricks and mortar: NMBS announces host of this year’s All-Industry Conference

 29 Apr 2024

With less than six months to go until the 2024 NMBS All-Industry Conference, Andy Hextall, commercial director at NMBS, reveals this year’s host.

As ever, we’ve had an overwhelmingly positive response to the All-Industry Conference. Our members and suppliers alike are keen to learn about the wider industry issues impacting businesses and the potential opportunities this presents the building materials sector, and as a result the conference is almost sold out.

Expected to be bigger and better than ever, the NMBS Conference will take place in Limassol, Cyprus, between 6-9 June 2024. Demand for places is extremely high, with only a few merchant places still available.

Leyser focus

For this year’s Conference, we wanted someone completely different to any of our previous hosts, who can keep the audience on their toes, and understands the digital transformation our sector is currently going through.

That’s why we’ve chosen professional host, keynote speaker, magician and digital illusionist, Keelan Leyser.

As a leading expert in technology magic, optical illusions and mentalism, Keelan has captured the attention of audiences around the world with his dynamic presentations and engaging insights, specifically in the area of teaching of how to use the mindset of a magician to enhance imagination, innovation and creativity.

With a career spanning nearly three decades, he has worked with international companies like Microsoft, BMW and Google, hosted and featured in more than 100 television programmes – including his own TV series called “Playing Tricks” – and has even performed for King Charles.

As one of the most sought-after magicians in the world, Keelan promises to engage attendees with his skills and will help to provide some light entertainment in between our conference sessions.

Industry insight

The theme of the conference is One Industry. As part of this, we will be exploring the role of collaboration in propelling our sector forward, particularly off the back of a difficult 2023 and uncertain 2024 for construction.

While we won’t be announcing the speaker line-up just yet, we can give you a sneak peek of the topics that will be included in the agenda.

We always aim to produce a well-rounded conference agenda that will both educate and inspire. Across the two-day conference, attendees will hear from experts from across the construction industry as well as business specialists who will be giving exclusive insight into: construction forecasts; trends and opportunities impacting our sector; the retrofit agenda; adaptability in a changing market; digitalisation and AI; and improving productivity and performance.

The full speaker line up will be confirmed over the coming months.

Location, location, location

The All-Industry Conference will be held at the newly-opened City of Dreams Resort which boasts a spa, fitness centre, five on-site restaurants and three on-site bars.

Limassol is the second-largest city in Cyprus and based on the southern coast of the island. It is the capital of the district with the same name and is also known as the region of wine, celebrations and ancient realms.

Limassol’s centre is located around the medieval Limassol Castle and the Old Port. With plenty of time on the agenda to enjoy the surroundings, guests will be able to explore these historical sites and landmarks, visit local wineries or take a stroll down the beautiful promenade of Limassol that stretches along the coast.

Booking your place

Alongside the conference, we’ll also be hosting Meet the Merchant sessions, providing plenty of networking opportunities including welcome drinks and a Gala Dinner, and leading a range of fun, optional activities.

Power tool manufacturer Makita is the Conference’s headline sponsor, with key sponsors including Worcester Bosch – who is sponsoring Keelan’s presence at the conference – Breedon, Genuit Group, Hikoki & Metabo Power Tools, Kerridge Commercial Systems, Keystone Group, Knauf Insulation, Marsh Industries, Marshalls Plc, SIG Distribution, and VELUX.

Attendees can book the following activities – which are all sponsored by Genuit Group, Knauf Insulation and VELUX – as part of the second stage registration process.

Troodos Jeep Safari

Those arriving before the conference begins can join an all-day Jeep tour through the breathtaking Troodos Mountains, the largest mountain range in Cyprus.

Those that enjoy exploring will be able to experience the rugged beauty of the landscape, journeying through scenic trails and unspoiled villages. The route promises panoramic views, hidden waterfalls, and lush vineyards, offering a perfect blend of excitement and serene natural beauty. Along the way, there will be stops at local taverns for authentic Cypriot cuisine, ensuring a delightful mix of cultural exploration and outdoor adventure.

Afternoon Winery Tour

If you’d prefer to see the sights at a slower pace, choose a wine-tasting journey in the Troodos Mountains. Visiting two renowned wineries, this experience offers a unique opportunity to taste exquisite local wines while immersed in the stunning mountain scenery. Each winery showcases its own distinct flavours and techniques, providing insight into Cyprus’s rich winemaking heritage. This excursion is a perfect blend of beautiful backdrops and culinary excellence, ideal for connoisseurs and casual enthusiasts alike.

Golf

For any golfers, then don’t miss the chance for a round at The Aphrodite Hills Golf Course, a world-class golfing destination. Set in a scenic location overlooking the Mediterranean, this 18-hole championship course is designed to challenge and delight golfers of all skill levels.

Any merchant wishing to book their place should do so now to avoid disappointment. For more information on the NMBS All-Industry Conference, visit: www.nmbs-conference.co.uk
