The old heating system at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dorking was at the end of its serviceable life so when the decision was made to renew it, it was agreed that the replacement emitters must be able to work with renewable technology in the future.
Smith’s was asked to work with the contractor to develop a suitable heating solution that also minimised the energy usage, but was able to heat the nave quickly maintaining the required temperature quietly to minimise noise interference when the church was in use.
Working with the contractor Smith’s provided 9 Caspian FF180EC fan convectors fitted with an EC control system with master/slave controls. The Caspian fan convectors were also modified to reverse the airflow so that the warm air is discharged from the lower vent to provide warm air at a low level.
The result is a heating system which fully meets the client requirements of a fully controllable heating system able to heat the nave of the church very quickly when required, then able to quietly maintain the set temperature. The system is also future-proofed with the Caspian fan convectors perfectly suited to meet future needs if, and when, a heat pump is installed to replace the current fossil-fuel boilers.
