Last month new Met Office analysis revealed that the UK is experiencing significantly more hot days and an increase in very wet days too.
In 2023, February, May, June and September were all ranked the warmest on record in the UK for the same months in data dating back 140 years. Yet, while the country is experiencing record breaking warm temperatures, there are no new records for cold weather.
Instead, there is an increased frequency in very wet days. In fact, they are occurring 20% more frequently in the most recent decade compared with the period 1961 – 1990. The Met Office’s annual State of the Climate report finds that 2023 was the seventh wettest year on records dating back to 1836.
These weather extremes – heat and rainfall – are impacting lives and communities. While the UK government and businesses work to tackle the impact of human-induced climate change, decision makers must adapt to make practices and processes more resilient.
Construction is one area where changes need to be made. Homes and buildings need to be made more durable, for example, maintained and future-proofed against extreme weather events. To achieve this, some UK manufacturers have developed building products to combat intense rainfall. Low maintenance building product specialist, Kalsi Group is one such manufacturer.
Big weather events have seen the company’s high-flow capacity rainwater systems surge in popularity in recent years, most notably its Krown rainwater system, the latest addition to the range.
While boasting an attractive ogee profile with a distinctive shape and stepped gutter profile, Krown does not compromise on performance. The system offers high-flow capacity without the need for left or right stop ends or internal and external angles. It is compatible with a variety of downpipes.
Stylish yet fit-for-purpose Krown is available in Black, Brown, White, Light Oak, and Anthracite Grey, and retains a high-quality finish. It is ideal for modern and period properties especially those with striking architectural features.
Simple to install, Krown has convenient fixing wings for secure fastening to fascias.
With 10 rainwater systems to choose from, Kalsi has the experience and expertise to advise on selecting the most appropriate system for any application. The products are readily available right across the UK and are suitable for domestic, commercial, and industrial use.
All Kalsi profiles are manufactured to BS EN 607:2004 (gutters and fittings), BS EN 12200-1:2000 and BS EN 1329-1:2000 (downpipes and fittings) and BS EN 1462:2004 (gutter brackets); within a quality management system that meets the requirements of BS EN ISO 9001.
All Kalsi Group products are available from a network of stockists across the UK and Ireland. The Birmingham-based business is a National Merchant Buying Society (NMBS) supplier and member of the Builders Merchant Federation (BMF).
