Makita has led the power tool industry with Lithium–ion battery cell technology and continues to advance the Li-ion benefits for professional tradesmen. The latest development is a new fast charger for 14.4volt cells that will recharge a cell unit in just 15 minutes or whilst the operator is having a tea-break! 

The new Makita BDF343 drill driver and the BHP343 combi drill are supplied with 1.5Ah Li-ion cells and the new DC18RA fast charger. These 2-speed tools will run up to 1,300rpm, generate up to 36Nm of torque and the combi unit is able to deliver up to 19,500 blows per minute. Both feature a 10mm capacity keyless chuck. Weighing just 1.5kg complete with battery fitted these two new tools further extend the Makita Lithium-ion power tool range for professional and domestic users. 

The “tea-break charger”, needing just 15 minutes to bring a Makita 14.4v cell up to maximum performance, is the latest innovation. It must be remembered that not all Lithium-ion battery cells are of the same quality and performance. Makita Li-ion cells are 40% lighter, smaller in size and have longer durability than a comparable Ni-MH battery. In addition Makita cells will deliver more than 2000 cycles and give 430% more run time. 

Charging technology is where Makita innovations excel – the chargers “read” the operating history of a battery and charge the cell in accordance with its prime operating mode. The battery is cooled whilst it is being charged and charge delivery varies during the charge time, making certain that the performance and durability of the Makita Li-ion cell is optimised for performance and economic ownership.
