NMBS Announces Record Sales for 2007
NMBS continues to challenge the Nationals’ stronghold and buck the overall trends in the industry as it announced it’s final turnover figures for 2007, which were just shy of the £560 million mark, a 10.6% increase on the previous year.
 
Managing Director, Chris Hayward said “At the half way point of the year, our turnover stood at £280 million and I stated that if we could maintain this level of performance throughout the second half of 2007, we would remain on target to achieve a new record annual turnover figure in excess of £550 million.
 
To achieve a similar result for the second half of 2007 and end up with a final figure of £559.5 million for the whole year really is a great achievement and represents a significant improvement on the £506 million we achieved in 2006.”
 
Indeed, this wasn’t the only record to be broken by NMBS in what proved to be a highly successful year for the organisation. At their flagship exhibition in Telford last May there was a staggering £12 million worth of orders placed during the one day show, with the new look Spot Buy and Pallet Alley stands proving a big hit with orders close to the £700,000 mark.
 
2007 also saw the introduction of several new added-value services, including the NMBS Forums which cover topical issues and highlight real ways for members to create and maximise business opportunities. There has also been continuous development of the on-line Report Centre and e-trading solutions throughout the year to ensure that members can benefit from reductions in both cost and admin time.
 
Chris Hayward added “We remain 100% committed to increasing the profitability of all our independent Members, by constantly innovating and adding value at every opportunity, driving costs down and providing them with the services that will improve their business.
 
This strategic focus is transforming NMBS giving it competitive advantage in the market place and our membership continues to grow - we added around 30 new members in 2007. This underpins our belief that the Independent is vibrant and healthy and can claw back market share and deliver on what they do best in providing excellent value for money services in their local markets.
 
We face a challenging year ahead as we are likely to encounter yet more difficult economic conditions, but by working together we give solidarity and provide the independent merchant the means to carry on competing against the National Chains, who continue to tighten their grip on the market.”
